How it works
- Pick 2 to 5 names from your shortlist in the Baby Name Genius app.
- Share the link. It works in a group chat, a text, or a post.
- Watch the votes come in. You see totals per name, never who voted for what.
Nobody needs the app to vote
This is the part most name polls get wrong. Asking your friends to install something before they can help is a big ask, and most of them will not do it. Voting here happens straight in the browser, so the only person who needs the app is you.
Why not just post the names?
You can, and people will reply with the one name they like and no sense of what the group thinks overall. A poll gives you a tally instead of a thread. It also lets quieter people weigh in without having to be the one who disagrees in public.
Votes are anonymous, which matters more than it sounds. People are more honest about a name when their opinion is not attached to their face, especially if the name is a family one.
Common questions
Do people need an account to vote?
No. They open the link and vote. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
Can people see my other names, or who I am?
They see only the names you put in that poll, and the display name you chose when you created it. You can leave that as Anonymous.
How long does a poll run?
Seven days. You can close it early once it has been open for a day, and you can stop sharing the link whenever you like.
Can I run a poll for a middle name, or twins?
Yes. A poll is just 2 to 5 names, so it works for a first name, a middle name, or a pair you are deciding between.
Beyond the poll
Polls are one part of Baby Name Genius. You can also swipe through names the way you would a photo feed, and match with your partner so you both see the names you have each quietly liked. Poll your friends when you are stuck, and keep the deciding between the two of you.
